Question:
How do I start up an RP or find RPs to join?
Answer:
There's no real set way the site works. Some people put up character profiles in the Character Bio's and Pictures thread for others to claim but other people just put up bios after the RP has started for their partners to look at.
Most the time if a character is available for RP use, the author will say so. However, if they are not available for RPs they may or may not state it (if stated it is normally like this: Character for *name of the RP*)
There are two other ways to go about starting an RP as well. The simplest is to just to put up the opening post in the appropriate RP section (this opening post can, but doesn't have to have, a character bio). The most common way for suggesting RPs though is in the Market.
In the market, you basically just throw the idea out there to see if anyone's interested before you dedicate yourself to the idea. This allows for both parties to put in input and make sure everyone is happy before you get the ball rolling.
In addition to all that stated above, people also prefer different means of claiming RPs. Some authors require a PM, while others will just let you post. These two types can be spotted by author notes in ( ) parenthesis, which if present normally say (PM me if interested).
One important thing you need to be aware of is that if an RP is taken you put your partner's name in the title of the thread. This is to prevent others from coming into RPs that are already full....
Question:
How do I make an RP?
Answer:
When making an RP the first thing to decide is a theme: fantasy, historical, scifi/future, etc. The theme is an important foundation that sets boundaries for the entire RP. It generally decides what characters can be involved, the technology present, and the general atmosphere of the piece. Each theme has a specific area in the forum, however, you may find your RP is a mixture of several. The predominant theme decides where your RP should go.
Once you've decided on a theme, it's a good idea to let everyone know what kind of setting it takes place in. Giving a brief description of what life is like in your RP helps your partner's characters interact and move appropriately in the world you have created. You may also consider posting a picture of the scenery.
Then you'll want to get a vague direction or storyline. It's good to have a specific idea, but to be lenient with it. People will be more willing to RP with you if you give them some wiggle room as well as provide something to work towards. I find that RPs without direction are endless and peter out instead of actually ending.
After giving a setting and a bit of story, you'll want to put up what kind of character you'll be playing to make sure your partner is compatible with him. You may also like to put something about what kind of character you are looking for. Character profiles are optional, but it might be nice to exchange profiles if you are willing to put the time into them.
NOTE: Generally, we don't care if you take pictures from others sites. Most of us aren't artists and recognize that you have borrowed a picture to use as reference.
Question:
What should I include in a character profile?
Answer:
Here is a general template. You may add or take out sections as needed.
Name: (you may choose to put only a first name or provide a full name)
Nickname: (any words or shortened name)
Species: (ex-human, angel, demon, etc)
Race/Breed: (ex- hispanic, asian, american, water demon, fallen angel, etc)
Type (of character): (list a few words about character personality as well as if your character is seme/uke/suke etc)
Age: (age ranges are fine if you don't want specifics, you may also want to separate this into physical, mental, and actual age)
Sex: (male, female, both, neither)
Gender: (gender is the sex your character associates with, so you may have a male character that is female gender, which means he will think and act like a girl)
Height: (specific or general height, typically from head to toe. You may choose to just say taller to indicate he will be taller than whatever partner he is paired with)
Weight: (general or specific)
Build: (stocky, thin, athletic, etc)
Eye Color: (self explanatory isn't it?)
Hair/Fur: (Include hair or fur color, length, and style. You may also want to note any body or facial hair your character may have)
Abnormal/Distinctive Physical Features: (scars, tattoos, or even features such as hair or eye color that is typically not scene in the world the character resides in)
Abnormal/Distinctive Behavior: (note accents, ticks, or behavioral oddities your character may have)
Occupation: (how your character makes a living)
Likes: (just list any favorites that you think might add personality to your character)
Dislikes: (list any dislikes that may affect how your character will react in certain situations)
Bio: (post a brief or extensive background and personality profile here)
Question:
Where do I introduce myself?
Answer:
You may introduce yourself in the Crazy Players section. This area, and your introductory post, will serve as your stat area where you can lay down some ground rules and info about yourself for others to view. Information you might want to include in this would be the type of RPs you prefer and things that you just don't want to be a part of your RP experience.
If you do not wish to post a profile you may also use the Chatterbox for introductions.
Question:
I no longer wish to continue an RP, what do I do?
Answer:
If you want to permanently end an RP there are several options.
First, you may want to consider simply ending it. Talk to your partner about bringing the RP to a close and decide on how you want the closing post to be done. Typically, one should put "End" as the very last sentence of this post to ensure that readers understand it's done and will not be continuing.
Second, you may want to cut it off. If your RP isn't going anywhere and you can't easily arrange to end it, dropping your RP may be the right option. To do this, inform your partner that you would like to drop the RP so that they aren't left waiting. Then you may choose to place the RP in the archive or have it deleted. To have it moved to the archive, only one partner needs to contact a mod. To have it deleted both partners must pm a mod and the thread will be deleted.
Third, you may want to consider just putting it on hold. If there is a chance you may want to continue later, keep your RP safe by contacting a mod and having it moved to the holding section. Please be sure to let your partner know if you want to wait on continuing until you get the drive back.
Question:
One of my threads has gotten messy from unneeded posts, can I get it cleaned or should I make a new topic?
Answer:
If you have a topic with posts that aren't needed, such as claims in an idea thread, you may contact a moderator (Kotira mainly). Specify the posts to delete or the posts to keep and it will be taken care of for you. If you want, you may make a new thread and you can contact a mod to delete the old one.
NOTE: If you have any more questions, post and they shall be answered. _________________ Classes have officially begun for Fall semester.
